2013 CADD SCHOLARSHIP

Madeline Shiell

For Immediate Release: May 30, 2013 - Since 2007, the CADD Scholarship has assisted graduating senior students from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and  Visual Arts in cushioning the cost of a higher education. CADD recently awarded Ms. Shiell with a $2500 scholarship.

In the fall of 2013, Ms. Shiell plans on enrolling in the BFA Program at Biola University in La  Mirada, California. She will use the award toward the cost of tuition while taking on the challenges of a rigorous fine arts program.

In her most recent statement, Ms. Shiell says, “I have a passion for art and individual expression as well as beauty and human rights…to prepare for such an endeavor I hope to study at Biola University. There I would attain a degree in studio art with a minor in  Intercultural and Biblical studies. Biola University has a type of environment that will foster  the character and spiritual growth that is necessary for not only the heart of that mission but  for life…”

During her time at Booker T. Washington, Ms. O’Brien impressed her teachers and peers, both in academics and in the visual arts. She has a solid 3.50 GPA.

Krystal Read, Ms. Shiell’s visual arts instructor, states “Her long resume is loaded with awards,  achievements, and extensive exhibition experience – none of which are accompanied by a big ego. Recently, her art was selected by the College Board from over 40,000 portfolios to be in an exclusive AP Studio Art Exhibit. This is a testament to her amazing talent! Madeline is a  natural artist with incredible intuition.”

In addition to her spectrum of artistic pursuits, she also has a fan in Physics. David Healey,  her instructor in AP Environmental Science says “Madeline truly epitomizes what a student is,  and I wish there were more of her out there.”

She is also a dedicated and active member of her community, taking part through the years in the Woodcreek Girl’s Accountability Group Disciples Program, National Art Honors Society,  Booker T. Washington Free Tibet Club, and Booker T. Washington Baking Club, as well as volunteering at Caritas of Austin Soup Kitchen, Battered Women and Children’s Refugee  Center, I am Second, House of Hope Ministry to child prostitute victims, and Salvation Army among others.

Contemporary Art Dealers of Dallas wishes nothing but the best for Madeline Shiell in her future pursuits.
