2012 CADD SCHOLARSHIP

ESME O’BRIEN

For Immediate Press Release

Contemporary Art Dealers of Dallas is pleased to announce Esme O’Brien as  the winner of the 2012 CADD Scholarship.

Founded in 2007, the CADD Scholarship helps graduating senior students from  Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing Visual Arts cushion the cost of  a higher education. CADD has assisted Ms. O’Brien with $2500 in aid.

In her most recent statement about her new work, Ms. O’Brien says, “my broader  concentration follows my growth from a mere observer of the earth to an active  participant. More significantly, it parallels my transformation from innocence to  maturity, basic elements to articulate instrument, childhood to college.”

During her time at Booker T. Washington, Ms. O’Brien impressed her teachers and  peers, both in academics and in the visual arts. She stands solidly at 6th in her class  with a near 4.0 GPA. Working in a variety of media, from printmaking, drawing, and  sculpture, she also adds music to a developing creative repertoire as a cellist of the  Greater Dallas Youth Symphony.

In addition to her spectrum of academic and artistic pursuits, she is a dedicated and  active member of her community, taking part in the Booker T. Washington Free Tibet  Club, a cultural exchange-based group of students who use printmaking primarily as  a means to fund education and sponsorship of Tibetan children, Drepung Monks, and  schools in and outside of China.

Evamaria Kutscheid, Ms. O’Brien’s printmaking instructor, calls her a “developing and  emerging renaissance woman…always ambitiously inquisitive, tenaciously hungry to  uncover and learn about the world and its mysteries while maintaining personal poise  and integrity.”

In the Fall of 2012, Ms. O’Brien plans on enrolling in the coordinated BFA/Certificate  Program at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the University of  Pennsylvania. She says she will use the award to help her defer the cost of housing  in downtown Philadelphia, helping her adjust to an exciting urban Northeastern city  while taking on the challenges of a rigorous fine arts program.

Contemporary Art Dealers of Dallas wishes nothing but the best for Esme O’Brien in  her future pursuits.
